In the last edition, we had Patrick and his family moving to the Tungamah/Boosey district in the late 1870's.
Patrick died on 17/11/1887 and is buried in the Tungamah Cemetery. After his death, his wife Mary lived with their youngest son Michael until her death on 2 January 1915 and she is also buried in the Tungamah Cemetery.
Patrick's Headstone in the Tungamah Cemetery
The following extract is from the local history "Burramine and Beyond" which looked at the history of the Burramine, Telford and Boosey districts in Victoria from 1879 to 1979. It tells the story of Patrick's oldest son, Jeremiah or Jerry.
"In the late 1870's the family moved to Burramine. The eldest son Jerry brought with him, his wife, Mary Whelan. Patrick selected land where Mr and Mrs Lawless now live and Jerry selected the farm where his grandson Patrick now lives.
Jerry and Mary also had seven children. They remained on the farm at Burramine and watched their children grow. One by one their children married and moved away from home. Ellen, Paddy, Mary and Katie all moved away. Tragedy struck the family in 1912 when Denis was killed in an accident. He had been a gifted violinist who had entertained the district at dances and social evenings. He died at the young age of 35. Jerry and Mary retired in 1926 to Tungamah and Peter took over the farm. Annie went to Tungamah with the parents and her cousin Kate Coster whom Kerry and Mary Adopted had adopted. In 1927 Mary died and in 1934 Jerry joined his wife and parents in Tungamah Cemetery.
Peter, who remained on the farm, had married Abbie and they had five children: Mary lives in Sydney, Joan married Jack Foley and lives in Katamatite with their two sons, Theresa married Leo Fitzgerald and lives in Murrumbeena, Pat and Gerald. Mary died in 1939. Peter worked on the farm until illness forced him into hospital where he died in 1965, aged 81 years. Their son Patrick now owns the farm which his grandfather selected over a century ago."
Jeremiah Quinane and his wife Mary Whelan Patrick's second son, Patrick Joseph Quinane married Julia Ann Hurley at nearby Yarrawonga on 4 September 1887. Their eldest daughter, Theresa Mary was born at Yarrawonga on 20 August 1888. Shortly after this birth, Patrick must have moved to Melbourne because from 1 July 1889 he was a railway worker. His wife, Julia owned a General Store in Fairfield (See picture below). Their second daughter, Agnes Annie Quinane was born on 5 September 1889 in Carlton.
The Shop in Fairfield, Vic. owned by Patrick's wife Julia Anne Hurley
This photograph was taken in 1893 or 1894.Patrick's third son, Peter was married at Benalla on 8th February 1880 to Mary Agnes Ryan, formerly of Geelong. Peter and Mary had the following children: Patrick (born about 1880 in Yarrawonga), Mary (born 1882 in Yarrawonga), Anne (born 1885), Daniel (born 1887), Honora (born 1889), Peter Joseph (born 19/1/1893 in Melton), Veronica (born 1895), Irene (born 5/12/1898) and Josephine (born 1902).
Patrick's fourth son, Cornelius was married at Burramine on 4 September 1890 to Anne Dwyer, formerly of Indented Head on the Bellarine Peninsula. They had the following children: Mary (born 1891), Daniel (born 6/4/1893), Patrick (born 10/11/1894), Annie (born 4/4/1896), Norah (born 1896), Kathleen Gertrude (born 16/5/1897), Cornelius (born 1900), Eileen (born 1902), Bridget Mary (born 1/1/1905), twins Teresa and Veronica born August 1907 and died December 1907) and Joseph Phillip (born 11/10/1908). Sometime after 1908 Cornelius moved to Ardthelan in NSW, presumably to take up new land that had been released.
It is thought that Patrick's third daughter, Johanna may have died shortly after the couple arrived in Australia - but this has not been confirmed.
Patrick's fourth daughter, Honora Mary married Daniel O'Meara at Burramine on 24/4/1889. This couple had 3 girls, Mary, Catherine and Annie. No further details are known about this family.
Patrick's fifth daughter Hannah had died at birth in 1861.
Patrick's sixth daughter Anne married Patrick Joseph Conway at Drysdale (near Geelong) on 26/2/1895. Anne and Patrick had 6 children: Bridget Donovan, Mary, Thomas Francis, and Norah all born in Tungamah and John born in Killmore and Patrick born at Lockhart
Nothing is known of Patrick's fifth son Daniel who was born in 1866.
Patrick's sixth son, Michael married Bridget Mary Conway in 1899 and they had three children: Mary Gerte, Kathleen Ester and Patrick Joseph all born at Tungamah.
Patrick's seventh daughter Mary had died shortly after her birth in 1870.
To be continued....
Daniel Quinane
.We have Daniel moving to Loddon Vale and Corop in the late 1890's after Ellen's death. He died at Barooga on 27/10/11903 and is buried in the Cobram Cemetery. It seems that most of his family had moved to the Barooga area.
Daniel's eldest son Michael was a Policeman and on 11/5/1885 married Mary Anne Cecilla Murray in Geelong. He was posted to Euroa where his first son Daniel was born, however, tragically both his son and his wife died shortly after the birth and are buried in the Euroa Cemetery On 8/7/1891 at Sandford Michael remarried Catherine Hickey. They had four children, Mary Ellen (born 1892), Catherine Hannah (born 1894), Elizabeth (born 1898) and John Joseph (born 1897). Michael died on 15/5/1902 at Barooga and is also buried in the Cobram Cemetery.
Daniel's eldest daughter, Mary never married and died in Melbourne in 1925.
Daniel's second son, John Patrick married Ellen Elizabeth Kennedy in Bendigo in 1907. They didn't have any children and John died in Melbourne on 11/2/1912 and is buried in the Bendigo Cemetery.
Daniel's third son Peter never married and died at Heidelberg on 15/8/1911 and is also buried in the Cobram Cemetery.
Nothing is known of Daniel's fourth son Daniel who was born in 1862.
Daniel's second daughter, Catherine had died on 117/6/1868 at the age of 4.
Daniel's fourth son, Thomas James Quinane married Jeremiah Quinane's eldest daughter Mary Margaret Quinane at Burramine on 23/2/1905. This union is very significant - because we have not found the Irish records which link these two families, this marriage effectively links the families in Australia! Thomas and Mary had three children: Catherine Ellen, Mary Agnes and John Daniel.
Daniel's third daughter, Ellen married John Boswell in 1905 and died in Albert Park in 1946. It is not known whether or not this couple had any children.
Nothing is known of Daniel's fifth son Jeremiah who was born in 1865.
To be continued.
Michael Quinane
Michael and his wife Elizabeth Agnes Sharp had their last child in 1904, Michael died at Beeac on 2/9/1919. It is not known when his wife Elizabeth died.
Michael's eldest daughter, Mary married Alan Cameron and they had one child, Jean.
Michael's first son, Michael had died on 19/2/1892 at the age of ten.
Michael's second daughter, Catherine had died on 3/1/1898 at the age of 14.
Michael's third daughter Margaret married John Clarke in 1913 and they had four children: Clara, Elizabeth, Sheila and John.
Michael's second son, John had died in Dublin on 19/6/1918 following his evacuation from the trenches after being wounded. John is buried in the Glenkeen Old Cemetery which is where the Kinnane/Quinane's from Upperchurch are buried.
Michael's fourth daughter, Jane married Thomas White on 29/10/1920 and they had two children, John and Thomas.
Michael's third son, Michael Joseph never married and died on 10/1/1953.

Michael's fifth son, Daniel married Gladys O'Neill and they had two children Mary and Frank.
To be continued.
Rough Rider
Jim Quinane
(by Sandy Blight)
(Dedicated to Frankie Golding for his rodeo with compliments by Author "Sandy Blight")
Of all the coves you read about
Rough riders of the west,
Theres one upcoming local lad
Wholl put them all to test,He said he rod Gymkhana Day
Some eighty points to gain,
Into the dust and up again
Rough rider Jim QuinaneThat young bull Hazer, Noelie said
Bucked ten foot in the air,
Then bolted till he shot his bolt
But still young Jim was there,Just how that judge missed me he said
Ill ask him to explain
Just why I didnt get the prize
Said rider, Jim Quinane. From Euabolong came the pigskin champs
Arthur Meadows too, to rock em,
Heady Fillups there to block em,
Rough riders came from Brewer swamps,And from Bagargo plain
To try their luck agan our champ
Rough rider Jim Quinane.
And from "The Mount" Bill Sticker came
With gear all in his grip,
He held a length of fencing wire
In his "maulder" for a whip,He claimed he rode his roughest bulls
From Hillston to the plain,
But met his match when up again
Rough rider, Jim QuinaneWhen "Franks" Ro-de-o comes around,
Well all be there to see,
Young Jimmy mount the roughest bull
And fill our hearts with glee,The spills and falls, they take galore
Game riders mount again,
Like the "Sticking Plaster" from Bootoowa
Rough rider, Jim Quinane.
James Patrick "Jim" Quinane was born at Lake Cargelligo on 7th June 1934. He was the second youngest child of Daniel J Quinane and Martha Watson (Daniel was the eldest son of Cornelius Quinane who moved to Ardlethan).

Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates
It currently costs about $25 per certificate to obtain a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate from the Registrar of BDM's in NSW or Victoria.
It would greatly assist the family research if anyone who has birth, death or marriage certificates for your parents or grandparents could send me a photocopy of the certificates.
These certificates are an invaluable source of information, they show where people were born, lived or died, how many other children there were, occupations, etc.
Certificates you hold may solve some of the other missing links or provide information about someone's place and date of marriage or death.
